BIOGRAPHY Danica and her boss, Alfred F. Jones, share quite a few traits that make them very American. They believe that hard work pays off, but also that people should live a little, kick back once in a while. They also have a strong sense of justice, never backing down from a fight if it means standing up for what they believe in. But that's where the similarities end. Danica is the serious half to America, Alfred being the happy-go-lucky half. She manages most affairs and paperwork while her boss gets to play the hero. While his speeches are short and heroic, hers are lengthy and informational, but many would say boring. But work is work and play is play. She does enjoy spending time out in the country, away from the big cities and politicians. If not out in the country, she spends the rest of her free-time at Virginia Beach. On rare occasions, she flies to England to visit her best friend London (name will most likely change). Secretly, she is an Anglophile, having once been made up of the original Thirteen Colonies. She loves visiting England for her vacations and may or may not have a crush on Mr. Jones. But, alas, work is work. No time for relationships. She also has a deep hatred for Arthur Kirkland given their history together despite her love of most anything originating from the country. HISTORY Danica's happy childhood began in Maryland. She enjoyed Mr. Kirkland's visits and even developed a crush on the nation. However, not everyone in the colonies felt the same about her beloved England. Then entered Alfred F Jones, the man who one day became her hero. "All we want is freedom, Dani," he explained. "Arthur, he just doesn't get it. He thinks we need protecting, like we're only kids. But we're not. We're Americans." Inspired by Mr. Jones' speech, Danica cut her long hair to her shoulders and joined Maryland's militia. But the fighting became too much for her. After all the horrors of war she'd witnessed, Danica vowed to never be part of a war again. Only a short seven years after the end of the war, Mr. Jones declared a move in capital from Philadelphia to a whole new district. Danica was a prime candidate. She changed her birthdate to July 16, 1790 and busied herself with helping to build the new capital as best she could. But the capitol building hadn't even been finished when plans came to an abrupt halt. The War of 1812 brought Mr. Kirkland and his soldiers to destroy the district and the newly built cities. Danica watched in horror as everything she'd helped build was burned to the ground. Alongside the flames burned a new-found hatred toward the Brit. Even though she was torn between her Anglophilia and her new hatred, she still insisted to never again trust Arthur Kirkland. As issues with slave trade worsened, Danica began debating whether or not to end slave trade in her district. Upon hearing this, Virginia decided to take back the land it had donated. In 1846, Danica lost all land donated by Virginia and was made up only of land donated by Maryland. Angry with the state's decision, she banned slave trade in the District of Columbia. Danica and Virginia's relationship was strained from that point and for another hundred fifty-five years. Only a few decades later, the American Civil War broke out. Virginia held the Confederacy's capital in Richmond, not far from Danica. She and Virginia often fought about the split in the country, the fact that Virginia's new country was always trying to attack her, and her lingering resentment towards Virginia for taking away her land years ago. After the Civil War ended and the Union was reunited, Danica lived peacefully for a while. One hundred years later, the Civil Rights Movement was brought to Danica's front door. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. gave his famous "I Have a Dream" speech during the March on Washington, and the capital got a front row seat. She and Alfred both felt inspired by the man, as did many in the District. This was evident only a few short years later when riots broke out after the assassination of King Jr. The riots raged for three days leaving poor Danica's buildings destroyed. Reconstruction began anew and didn't end until the late 1990s. After reconstruction was finally finished, tragedy struck the country. Terrorists hijacked American Airlines Flight 77 and United Airlines Flight 93 and crashed them into the Pentagon in Virginia and Pennsylvania respectively. When Danica learned that Flight 93 was meant for her, she gathered Virginia and Pennsylvania to mourn for those who died in the incident. Finally, she and Virginia made up, the two states and the district hugging out the grief from any and all of their pasts together. | NICKNAME Dani GENDER female COUNTRY OF ORIGIN United States of America TYPE capital (Washington DC) CANON OR ORIGINAL original PLAYED BY AmberLehcar |
